A cruise title does not reliably tell you where you board. Current products use locations ranging from central Vigadó tér to Batthyány tér, Dock 42 and the Elizabeth Bridge area.
Budapest cruises leave from several different stretches of the Danube — and the dock number matters just as much as the square name. This guide explains the main departure zones, which side of the river they are on, the easiest public-transport approach and what to check before walking down to the lower quay.
Searching only for “Budapest boat tour” is not precise enough. Different operators use different banks, squares and numbered docks, and some products even change the meeting point according to the ticket option selected.

MAHART lists its Vigadó tér ports at Jane Haining rakpart on the Pest lower quay. Tram 2 stops at Vigadó tér, while Vörösmarty tér and Deák Ferenc tér are also practical approaches from central Budapest.
Batthyány tér departure points sit on the Buda lower quay at Angelo Rotta rakpart. The area is served by metro M2, suburban railway H5 and trams 19 and 41.
The current City Highlights cruise meeting instructions place Dock 42 about 800 metres north of Margaret Bridge. It is therefore a different departure zone from the central Pest docks near Vigadó Square.
The Historical Cruise currently directs passengers toward Dock 10 near the white Elizabeth Bridge. Tram 2 serves Március 15. tér, while Ferenciek tere is a useful central metro approach.
From Budapest Airport, the 100E Airport Express runs directly to Deák Ferenc tér. From there, central Pest docks are relatively close, while Batthyány tér is reached conveniently by M2.
Vigadó tér alone is not enough, and neither is “Danube River.” Several vessels can be boarding within the same stretch of quay. Match the square, bank, dock number and operator name before joining a queue.
The quickest route depends on whether your cruise leaves from Pest, Buda or the northern riverfront. Identifying the bank first prevents unnecessary bridge crossings.
These are all on the Pest side, but they are not next to one another. Vigadó and Március 15. tér are central, while Dock 42 sits considerably farther north.
This is the main Buda-side departure area used by current sightseeing services. Parliament sits directly opposite, making it easy to recognise once you reach the river.
The Airport Express currently runs directly between Liszt Ferenc Airport and Deák Ferenc tér, giving you a practical central transfer point before continuing to your specific dock.
Keleti is on metro line M2, making Batthyány tér straightforward. For central Pest, continue toward Deák Ferenc tér and walk or connect onward.
Dock 42 is much closer to the northern city centre than Vigadó. For a central Pest departure, use the transport planner rather than simply walking toward the nearest part of the river.
Include Dock 5, Dock 10, Dock 42, Pier 1 or any operator name shown on the voucher.
Crossing the Danube unnecessarily can turn a short final walk into a stressful detour close to departure time.
Once you reach the river, look for the numbered pontoon and operator branding rather than continuing to follow only the street address.
These examples show why checking the meeting point matters: three sightseeing cruises can use three completely different stretches of Budapest’s riverfront.
The current booking instructions place this cruise at Dock 42, approximately 800 metres north of Margaret Bridge. Search specifically for “Dock 42” or the operator rather than navigating to central Vigadó Square.
Current options can depart from MAHART Vigadó tér Dock 5 on the Pest side or Batthyány tér Pier 1 on the Buda side. Your selected ticket determines which bank you need.
The current meeting instructions place this cruise on the Pest side near Elizabeth Bridge. Take tram 2 to Március 15. tér and continue to Dock 10, looking for Duna Cruises.

Budapest’s riverfront is easy to navigate once you know the exact pier. The problems usually start when visitors navigate only to the square or assume every sightseeing boat leaves from the same place.
Check whether the departure is on Pest or Buda before choosing your final metro, tram or walking route.
“Vigadó tér” is less useful than “Vigadó tér Dock 5.” Keep the full meeting-point wording available offline.
Reaching the nearby square does not mean you are standing at the vessel. Allow time to descend, identify the pontoon and find the operator.
Use the current voucher and BudapestGO for live transport conditions rather than relying on an old screenshot or saved route.
